Another reference project that the ifa group successfully participated in in the 1990s is the GlaucoCard project. GlaucoCard was a project supported by the European Glaucoma Society (EGS) for the co-management of glaucoma specialists for improving the quality of care based on digital patient data. Since the development of the EGS guidelines, glaucoma care has been increasingly standardized for diagnostic as well as for therapeutic measures in the different European countries. The project's main goal was to help improve standard care and documentation according to the EGS guidelines by providing an electronic platform that can be used by different ophthalmologists and can inform the patient himself about the status and therapy of his/her disease. ![]() The advantage of the GlaucoCard project is the pragmatic and patient-oriented approach. As the technology is nowadays rather inexpensive (web applications, USB key) and easy to use, IT based projects are very well accepted by ophthalmologists and their teams. The introduction of digital patient cards in the various European countries is also a promotion for computer based ophthalmology. Advantages of a GlaucoCard For the patient
