Disease Registries

Disease registries are databases that collect clinical data on patients with specific diseases (in eye care e.g. cataract, AMD, DR, glaucoma, uveitis, etc.). Quality outcome projects consist of comprehensive registries designed to develop concepts for therapy benefit management and healthcare guidelines.

An electronic medical record (EMR) can function as the core system for connecting technical applications (e.g. terminology services and device connectivity) and clinical applications (e.g. disease management services, certification programs, quality management systems). Data from the electronic medical record can be directly transferred to disease registries and/or clinical trials.

The ifa group is the leading provider for disease registries in eye care. The EUREQUO web database (European Registry for Quality Outcome of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) is the largest Health IT project in ophthalmology.
